How long does CPR and Defribullator training take?

If 2 students 30 minutes, if 10 students is takes 2 hours.

To pump blood around the body. Blood carried oxygen which will keep your brain and heart alive.

Over 70,000 cardiac arrest every year. 30,000 of those are in hospitals. We only save 6,000.

Anyone can suffer a cardiac arrest, but most happen to men over the age of 42. 76% of cardiac arrests happen to men because a women’s heart is genetically stronger.

What is the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest?

A heart attack occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is restricted. A cardiac arrest is an electrical issue when the heart goes from a normal sinus rhythm in to a ventricular fribulation. The only way to restore a sinus rhythm is the use of a defribulator.

How effective are defibrillators?

Within the first 3 – 5 minutes of a victim collapsing, if a defibrillator is used, the likelihood of survival increases from 6% to 74% therefore, having a defibrillator close by really makes all the difference.

How do I recognise that someone has had a cardiac arrest?

The victim will collapse unconscious and will be unresponsive. Breathing will also stop, although it may take a few minutes to stop completely.

30,000 people are struck by a cardiac arrest outside a hospital environment in the UK.

 

Should I give CPR if there is a pulse?

If the victim has a pulse but is breathing abnormally, maintain the patient’s airway and begin rescue breathing, administering one breath every 5 to 6 seconds and checking the patients pulse every 2 minutes. Only at the point where no pulse is present, begin administering CPR.

 

How many people would attempt CPR if they saw someone having a cardiac arrest?

Only 2/3 of UK adults (70%) would attempt to preform CPR if they saw someone having a cardiac arrest. Meaning that the 30% are not likely to preform CPR.

 

How common is a cardiac arrest in children?

Fortunately, out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in children are rare. A cardiac arrest only accounts for 3-5% of all deaths in children ages 5-19.
